Auto-Backup Every Google News Article to Google Drive

Never lose a Google News article again — this workflow copies every new one straight to Google Drive, where it has Google Drive save a copy to Google Drive as a standing backup.

difficulty Beginnersetup 15 minresult A hands-off n8n workflow where every relevant Google News article automatically reaches Google Drive — save a copy to Google Drive.
  1. 1

    Fetch Google News data

Add an HTTP Request node (or the native Google News node if you have credentials set up) and point it at the Google News API. Poll Google News for new articles. Add a Schedule Trigger before it if this recipe runs on a timer, or a Webhook node if Google News can push events directly.

  2. 2

Shape the data with a Set node

Add a Set node after the fetch step to pull out the fields you need — e.g. id, title (or name), status, and updated_at from the Google News article. This keeps the rest of the workflow clean and readable.

  3. 3

Add a Google Drive node set to operation Upload. Connect your Google account, choose the destination Folder, and pass the file/summary through from the Set node.

  4. 4

    Activate and test

Click Activate in the top-right corner. Trigger a real article in Google News (or run the workflow manually against existing data) and confirm it lands correctly in Google Drive. Once verified, this runs hands-off.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to code anything?

No. n8n is a visual, drag-and-drop builder. You connect your Google News and Google Drive accounts, map the fields, and activate — no code required.

Where do I get my Google News API credentials?

In your Google News account settings, look for "API", "Developers" or "Integrations" and generate an API key or token. Paste it into n8n's HTTP Request node (as a header or credential) or the native Google News node if one is available.

Can I filter which items trigger this workflow?

Yes. Add an `IF` node after the Set node with a condition on any field (status, amount, tag, etc.). Wire the TRUE branch to the Google Drive step and leave FALSE empty to skip the rest.
