  1. 1

    Add the Gmail Trigger node

Start with a Gmail Trigger node — connect your Google account and optionally set a Label or search filter so it only fires for the emails you care about. This fires the workflow the moment a new email arrives.

  2. 2

Map the fields with a Set node

Add a Set node after the trigger to shape the data cleanly. Create fields: from to {{ $json.from.value[0].address }}, subject to {{ $json.subject }}, and snippet to {{ $json.snippet }}. This turns the raw payload into tidy values your destination can use.

  3. 3

Add a Google Drive node set to operation Upload. Connect your Google account, choose the target Folder, and pass the binary/file data through from the trigger. Set a clear file name from the Set-node fields.

  4. 4

    Activate and test

Click Activate in the top-right of the canvas. Trigger a test email in Gmail, then confirm it appears in Google Drive. Once it works, you're done — every new email now flows through automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any coding skills to set this up?

No. n8n is a visual, drag-and-drop tool. You connect your Gmail and Google Drive accounts, point the nodes at the right form/sheet/channel, map the fields, and activate. No code required.

Can I filter which emails get sent to Google Drive?

Yes. Add an `IF` node between the Set node and the Google Drive node with a condition (for example, only send when an amount is above a threshold or a field equals a value). Wire the TRUE branch to Google Drive and leave FALSE empty to skip the rest.

Can I send each email to more than one place at once?

Absolutely. Branch the workflow after the Set node: connect it to multiple destination nodes so the same email lands in Google Drive and, say, Slack or a spreadsheet simultaneously.
