  1. 1

    Add the HubSpot Trigger node

Start with a HubSpot Trigger node — connect your HubSpot app credential and set the subscription to contact.creation. This fires the workflow the moment a new contact arrives.

  2. 2

Map the fields with a Set node

Add a Set node after the trigger to shape the data cleanly. Create fields: email to {{ $json.properties.email }}, firstname to {{ $json.properties.firstname }}, and company to {{ $json.properties.company }}. This turns the raw payload into tidy values your destination can use.

  3. 3

    Send it to Mailchimp

Add a Mailchimp node set to operation Create/Update a member. Connect your account, pick the Audience, set Email from the Set node, and map merge fields like FNAME. Set status to subscribed.

  4. 4

    Activate and test

Click Activate in the top-right of the canvas. Trigger a test contact in HubSpot, then confirm it appears in Mailchimp. Once it works, you're done — every new contact now flows through automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need any coding skills to set this up?

No. n8n is a visual, drag-and-drop tool. You connect your HubSpot and Mailchimp accounts, point the nodes at the right form/sheet/channel, map the fields, and activate. No code required.

What happens if my n8n workflow is off when a contact comes in?

It depends on the source. Services like Stripe, Shopify and HubSpot retry webhook deliveries for a period, so events are processed once the workflow is back on. For the most reliable capture, run this on n8n Cloud (always online) or keep your self-hosted instance up.

Can I send each contact to more than one place at once?

Absolutely. Branch the workflow after the Set node: connect it to multiple destination nodes so the same contact lands in Mailchimp and, say, Slack or a spreadsheet simultaneously.
