Buttondown Subscriber Updated? Auto-Sync It to Email

Whenever an existing Buttondown subscriber changes, this n8n workflow detects it and has Email send a notification email — keeping both tools in step automatically.

difficulty Beginnersetup 25 minresult A hands-off n8n workflow where every relevant Buttondown subscriber automatically reaches Email — send a notification email.
  1. 1

    Fetch Buttondown data

Add an HTTP Request node (or the native Buttondown node if you have credentials set up) and point it at the Buttondown API. Poll Buttondown for subscriber changes. Add a Schedule Trigger before it if this recipe runs on a timer, or a Webhook node if Buttondown can push events directly.

  2. 2

Shape the data with a Set node

Add a Set node after the fetch step to pull out the fields you need — e.g. id, title (or name), status, and updated_at from the Buttondown subscriber. This keeps the rest of the workflow clean and readable.

  3. 3

Add a Gmail node set to operation Send. Connect your Google account and set To, Subject and Message from the Set-node fields.

  4. 4

    Activate and test

Click Activate in the top-right corner. Trigger a real subscriber in Buttondown (or run the workflow manually against existing data) and confirm it lands correctly in Email. Once verified, this runs hands-off.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to code anything?

No. n8n is a visual, drag-and-drop builder. You connect your Buttondown and Email accounts, map the fields, and activate — no code required.

Where do I get my Buttondown API credentials?

In your Buttondown account settings, look for "API", "Developers" or "Integrations" and generate an API key or token. Paste it into n8n's HTTP Request node (as a header or credential) or the native Buttondown node if one is available.

Can I filter which items trigger this workflow?

Yes. Add an `IF` node after the Set node with a condition on any field (status, amount, tag, etc.). Wire the TRUE branch to the Email step and leave FALSE empty to skip the rest.
